  • Horse Move Take 2

    April 21, 2008

I moved horses again today.  I got geared up for excitement.  I put on my cowgirl hat, my sun glasses, slapped on some spf 45 and laced up the boots.

I hiked up the hill and was immediately noticed by the hooved critters.  They all gathered around the gate, waiting to find out if there was going to be grain, carrots, or baths.  I surprised them by lifting the 12 foot gate off the hinges and backing up 8 feet.  They looked puzzled.  Then Ben, being the food minded horse that he is, noted that by stepping back I had made an opening into the new paddock.  And oh what a horsey delight.... knee high grass!

As with other moves it was kind of anticlimactic.  They trotted down the fence line then immediately stuck their heads in the grass.

While they were occupied I attached the gate further into the aisleway so that they would still have access to the barn, though I don't think they will notice my forward thinking until their bellies are good and full...or never!

After I finished all that hard labor (all 10 minutes of it) I returned to the house to Release The Hounds!!!!  I mean let the dogs out.  The dogs enjoyed socializing with their 4-legged siblings.

As much as I sat in the yard waiting for one of those Black Beauty moments, the most I got was horses watching my neighbor ride his horse (people actually ride these things?).
